What You’ll Learn
Participants will learn the fundamentals of United States Immigration Law. The course, consisting of both online lessons and clinic practice, will equip participants with the knowledge and experience in Immigration Law, and is a first step in becoming partially accredited representatives through the U.S. Department of Justice (see Recognition & Accreditation Program). The course will focus on the practical aspects of representing individuals before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in a nonprofit setting that primarily works with family-sponsored, agricultural employment-based, student, and humanitarian-based visas; citizenship applications; and applications.
By the end of this course, participants will:
- Have a basic knowledge of Immigration and Citizenship Law in the United States.
- Have a basic knowledge of types of cases and visas.
- Have skills to be able to work with clients.
- Be able to prepare N-400 applications.
- Have a basic knowledge of Family-sponsored Visas.
- Be able to prepare petitions for Family-sponsored Immigrant Visas and applications for Adjustment of Status.
- Be able to prepare applications for filing.
Course Details
The Fundamentals of Immigration Law is an 8-week course that covers the basics of Immigration Law in the United States. The course also teaches about the basic requirements for partial accreditation from the U.S. Department of Justice to practice Immigration Law with a certified nonprofit organization.
The course contains eight modules that participants work through at their own pace throughout the week.
Each week comprises 6–7 mini-lessons.
