Brigham Young University Office of Belonging

The Office of Belonging's efforts to create a covenant community are grounded in the BYU Statement on Belonging which reads:

We are united by our common primary identity as children of God (Acts 17:29; Psalm 82:6) and our commitment to the truths of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ (BYU Mission Statement). We strive to create a community of belonging composed of students, faculty, and staff whose hearts are knit together in love (Mosiah 18:21) where:

All relationships reflect devout love of God and a loving, genuine concern for the welfare of our neighbor (BYU Mission Statement); We value and embrace the variety of individual characteristics, life experiences and circumstances, perspectives, talents, and gifts of each member of the community and the richness and strength they bring to our community (1 Corinthians 12:12–27); Our interactions create and support an environment of belonging (Ephesians 2:19); and The full realization of each student’s divine potential is our central focus (BYU Mission Statement).

At BYU, we believe that true belonging is achieved when every person feels welcomed, heard, and uplifted. The Office of Belonging stands as a beacon of that commitment, helping to cultivate a campus that reflects the university’s values of faith, respect, and love for all of God’s children.

No More a Stranger Foundation (NOMAS)

The No More A Stranger Foundation (NOMAS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing pro bono immigration legal services to individuals and families in need. Inspired by Christ’s teaching to take in strangers (Matthew 25:35–36), our mission is to advocate together with and on behalf of individuals from immigrant, migrant, and refugee backgrounds to strengthen our communities. In collaboration with BYU Continuing Education, the J. Reuben Clark Law Society (JRCLS), and various local supporters, we operate community legal clinics across multiple locations, offering free legal assistance for those seeking citizenship, family-sponsored visas, work permits, and more. Volunteer attorneys, accredited representatives, law students, and others from the community work together to provide high-quality legal services while empowering clients through education and support. At NOMAS, we believe we are better together. Whether you need legal assistance, want to join us in making a difference, or both, we invite you to be a part of our mission.

BYU Community Legal Clinic

The BYU Community Legal Clinic provides opportunities for students to provide pro bono legal service while developing legal knowledge and skills necessary to become competent and compassionate lawyers. Our efforts are grounded in the BYU Law School mission statement that reads:

Founded, supported, and guided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the J. Reuben Clark Law School is an integral part of Brigham Young University and embraces the university’s global mission and aims.

BYU Law recognizes the inherent dignity and equality of each individual and welcomes people from the full range of human experience. We are committed to the teachings of Jesus Christ and honor His many roles, including healer, mediator, counselor, peacemaker, advocate, lawgiver, and judge. In striving to emulate His example, we seek to be and develop people of integrity who combine faith and intellect in lifelong service to God and neighbor.

As a community, we aim to advance justice, mercy, liberty, opportunity, peace, and the rule of law. To these ends, BYU Law prioritizes inspiring teaching, rigorous study, and influential scholarship in an environment that values diversity, fosters unity, motivates excellence, nurtures leadership, promotes innovation, engenders empathy, and cultivates compassion.

“Volunteering has helped me peek into the immigration system, and in some way, what legal work in immigration might look like. It's also great that it counts as internship credit at my university.”

"Our team at the clinic is so supportive that when I have questions, I can always find an answer by consulting with them. This is so much more than a ‘resume-builder.’ I have been learning and internalizing many new skills, skills that will serve me everywhere I go."
